The annual Goldfields Piping Concert returns to Castlemaine. In this concert of music by Boismortier, Chédeville and others, Simon Rickard and Nicholas Pollock of Ensemble Pompadour explore the charming repertoire once played in the private apartments of Versailles Palace, on two of the most fashionable instruments of the day - the mighty theorbo, and the musette; a bagpipe designed especially for playing indoors.
They are joined by pipers Matthew Horsley and Sarah Wade for a selection of fascinating duets from the eighteenth century from France and the Scottish borders.
