Guildford
Guildford is a pretty town set on the banks of the Loddon River. It was the location of one of the goldfield's great Chinese Diggings sites.
The Guildford Big Tree is a Biyal (Red gum) on Djandak (Dja Dja Wurrung Country) believed to be more than 530 years old. It is deeply significant for Dja Dja Wurrung, with its grafted branch signifying it as a marker tree. More information on its cultural significance in the links below.
In 2023 the National Trust recognised the Guildford Big Tree as the Victorian Tree of the Year.
Guildford also has one of the oldest hotels in the region which boasts a fully restored goldfields era music hall and the General Store.
