Free Family Fun at Playgrounds

There is no one who loves exploring new surrounds more than a child, so grab your kids and head to one of the many playgrounds in the shire that have been purpose built to keep kids entertained and burn of some of that crazy energy.

In Maldon, find a great family playground in the shire gardens behind the Visitor’s Centre. A climbing apparatus will keep even your most adventurous daredevil satisfied.

Head to Taradale Mineral Springs Reserve and enjoy a small, new playground with a flying fox, half hoop climber, bead climber, slide and shop front. The Reserve also has barbeques and public toilets, making it the perfect place for a picnic.

The playground at the end of the Campbell’s Creek track is great for smaller kids. This pretty space has bush surrounds and backs on to the creek where there is a lovely cycling and walking path that is suitable for all ages.

The stunning Castlemaine Botanical Gardens is a family-friendly space where you could easily spend an entire day. The gardens, designed by the notable botanist, Baron von Mueller, are lush with trees – many of which are listed by the National Trust. The Duke of Edinburgh planted one such tree, a giant English Oak, in 1867 to celebrate a royal wedding and it’s the perfect place to set up a picnic rug and enjoy the surrounds. The gardens also have an extensive natural playground with a treehouse, hammock, miner’s cottage and log train along with barbeque facilities, toilets, picnic tables and power points.
